Vid. Uma Kumar is a talented classical Carnatic and Abhang singer. She is the granddaughter of the renowned Carnatic musician Saattur Sri A.G. Subramaniam Iyer. Uma holds a master's degree in Carnatic music from Madras University and has been honored with the title 'Sai Gaana Saraswathi.' She runs the Ragamalika Music School and received her initial training from her mother, Vid. Lakshmi Sundaram, who is her first guru. She is currently undergoing advanced training with the eminent Carnatic vocalist Vid. Raji Gopalakrishnan. Uma Kumar's music has captivated audiences in Canada, Switzerland, India, South Africa, France, the USA, and the UK. She has performed in ABHANG concerts, including at the 2024 Olympics Fan Zone in Paris. Additionally, she has been curating thematic concerts on gods, gurus, and ragas. To date, she has created 25 different themes and has presented them in various concerts.

Vid. Uma Kumar has launched a new musical initiative, UTSAV 36+, to honour 36+ traditional festivals of Bharat and has released a music video for each festival in 2025. They are all available on her YouTube channel, umakumarmusic. In the Chennai Margazhi Season 2025, she has given a range of thematic concerts in different Sabhas, Festivals, and Temples.
