Bharatanatyam exponent Anjana Anand is known for her precise footwork, mature expressiveness (abhinaya) admirable vigour and lissome grace. Her training in the martial arts (kalaripayattu) has brought focus and firmness, while her roles in JustUs Repertory productions have helped her to grow into a versatile artiste straddling genres. Engaged in a full-time career in dance (performance, research, teaching), Anjana is an independent solo artiste who has performed in major venues in India and abroad. An alumnus of SIFAS, Singapore and Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts, Chennai (best outgoing student 1998), Anjana continues to broaden her artistic understanding under the mentorship of Sheejith Krishna. Anjana is a graded artiste of Doordarshan (national television network) She holds a bachelors degree in Carnatic music. Anjana’s interest in dance education has led her to complete a Masters in Fine Arts and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Bharatanatyam. She is a founder member of Sahrdaya Foundation where she teaches and performs for the ensemble wing. She has worked on collaborative projects with Apsaras Arts, Singapore Nirmanika (2012) and Angkor Wat (2013)) as a guest choreographer and performer and JustUs repertory productions (Flame of the Forest (2007), Sakhi (2012)), Chennai.
